Philip Krayna, CEO and Chief Creative Officer

Philip began his career with renowned publication designer Roger Black in New York City, assisting with the redesign of Esquire, Time and Smart Money magazines. Philip was also assistant photo editor at Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine. After relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area, he served as a designer at Mother Jones magazine and art director at Bank of America before going solo.

His involvement in design is wide-ranging. In addition to teaching classes in typography and design theory at California College of the Arts, University of Santa Cruz, and San Francisco Center for the Book, he is currently a senior lecturer in the design department at San Jose State University. Philip writes frequently about influential creatives and design trends for major industry periodicals, including Communication Arts, Print and Metropolis.

Recently, his design work was added to the permanent collection of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Philip holds a J.D. degree with a certificate of specialization in environmental law and policy. Balancing the analytical with the creative in his work, he is driven to ask: How can our society better integrate our constant desire for movement and progress with our need to design a sustainable future?
